Overall, the upcoming Royal Wedding between Prince William and Catherine Middleton doesn't seem to be igniting the same degree of creative frenzy among Android developers as with their Apple iOS brethren. The Android Market seems laden with gussied-up countdown apps (The Wedding equivalent of a flashlight app) and apps that just link up with media websites filled with videos and news about Prince William's receding hairline, his "former flings" and the couple's portrait-in-a-pizza (by the Papa John's Pizza chain). Here's a sampling of the best, worst and in-between mobile apps, for Android smartphones and tablets, being touted as indispensable for keeping track of and connected with The Wedding, set for Friday, April 29, at Westminster Abbey in London (and which will be streamed live on YouTube). Royal Wedding Countdown, a free app from EJC Labs, was featured on BBC News as the app counts down the seconds until the Royal Wedding. It displays the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the formal ceremony time. After some suggestions from its users, the app now comes with a screen widget, plus it plays a trumpet blast whenever the Royal Coat of Arms is clicked. Westminster Abbey 3D; tours around the wedding venue. This app was able to get the nod of both William and Catherine. Royal Wedding, William and Kate from AppSNow; provides information on the wedding taken from the best British newspapers, blogs as it also includes some podcasts and videos. Users can even share their finds via email, Facebook and Twitter. The app costs about one Euro. Royal Wedding Live Wallpaper from Rosway Studios; treats users to hourly wallpaper switching from the soon-to-be husband and wife’s library of photos. Kate’s Royal Wedding Story is a fictional animated fairy tale romance story about Kate. An original motion-comic technique was used to produce this diary by Movics Ltd., the app’s developer. Prince William’s version is also available for download. Royal Wedding Insider by BBC Worldwide Limited gives up to the minute news on the happenings and development surrounding the Royal Wedding. Aside from getting trivia and other wedding tips, users will also have the benefit of watching videos from the couple’s well-wishers and some other BBC exclusives.
